Just like life, doing art is a journey of discovery. Each piece of work that I get involved in is a metaphorical symbol of where I am mentally, physically and spiritually in my process of coming to consciousness. By mixing the media and creating various layers I’m able to convey subtle sensitivities about life that would normally not be evident in a painting. Most of the handmade papers I use come from around the world, many made by women in 3rd world countries. By using their papers I make them matter. …. We are all connected.
When we lived in Houston,TX as a hobby , I took up Chinese brush painting (spontaneous style) and loved the challenge of this difficult painting technique. It taught me the value of the breath and staying with the moment not only while painting but daily living as well. You will notice the strong influence of this painting in my mixed media work.
So now, back in my beloved Cleveland, OH, I once again take the time to push myself further with paint. As I start the year 2019 I find myself loving the process of loose relaxed big brush stroke painting mixed in with new colors not typical of my usual palette. While some artists feel comfortable using the same methods for many years, I on the other hand enjoy the process of change and examining different ways to express what I need to say.
Hop on over to the OIL PAINTING page of this blog and you will discover yet another side of my painting techniques! I love doing these very tight oil painting figures. They bring a lot of joy to me & the people I paint!
I truly feel that because of some very auspicious star alignment, I have been awarded this grand opportunity to be an artist and teacher. Being an artist is a job that I take quite seriously and approach with a grateful mind and heart.
Soooooo, sit back and relax….. enjoy the paintings as you scroll down the pages.
